Integrated planning means impeccable implementation
As sole contractor, PORR assumed full responsibility for the refurbishment of the Rheumatism Specialist Unit in Baden, which entailed extension of the inpatient ward and construction of an integrated service centre. The building has now been divided into four sections: the ward has more than 156 beds, the administrative wing has acquired a kitchen and office space, and the large therapy wing now includes five therapy pools with a total of 430 m2 of water and a vast array of training facilities and exercise areas. The adjoining Service Centre houses outpatient rehabilitation, one-stop services and a dental clinic.
The total project was put out for tender in a two-stage process which amongst other things required the provision of structural and operational plans. After being commissioned in 2012, PORR worked with the architect and professional planners to set up an integrated planning process incorporating the preliminary design, design and submission schedule stages. This allowed any proposals for improvements to be rapidly assimilated into the planning process and promoted a cost-effective approach to the whole construction process. The main aim was to apply a life cycle approach to managing the project.
