The remediation of the contaminated site K20 in the Carinthian market town of Brückl is an illustrative example of PORR's flexibility and broad range of services. The blue limestone landfill was used to deposit calcium carbide and CHC-polluted waste until 1981, and was for a long time considered one of the most dangerous contaminated sites in the country.
After part of it was cleared, the site was secured in summer 2016. PORR Umwelttechnik GmbH was responsible for clearing, loading, disposal, drilling and earthmoving works and for the construction of parts of the groundwater purification plant and the soil vapour extraction plant.
PORR Bau GmbH undertook the construction of the enclosing diaphragm wall securing the contaminated site and the PORR subsidiary IAT GmbH carried out the multifunctional surface sealing works. The total order volume was around EUR 30m. Today, Brückl's air and water are once again free of pollutants, thanks to PORR.
