Project construction

Rail construction projects that require top organisational and technical performance

In the field of project construction, PORR offers comprehensive construction services for rail infrastructure companies that do not involve track construction work. These services cover a broad spectrum of construction projects which are specially tailored to the needs and requirements of the respective rail infrastructure. PORR's clients in this segment include companies such as ÖBB, Wiener Linien, Wiener Lokalbahnen, Raab-Ödenburger-Bahn, NÖVOG and GKB.

PORR realises a wide range of construction projects for these companies. These include, in particular, the construction and renovation of rail stations and stops with the following services:

  • Construction of rail platforms
  • Substructure work: Excavation work, track substructure, track ballast backfill
  • Drainage work: Drains, sewers, manholes, pumping stations
  • Cable routes: cable troughs, pipe routes, track crossings, pipe pressings
  • Subways for pedestrians and vehicles
  • Footbridges
  • Recording building

PORR also offers specialised services for rail infrastructure companies in the field of bridge construction:

  • Rail bridges over roads and waterways, partly in operation
  • Road bridges over the rail, during operation
  • Undercrossings in waterproof concrete tanking
  • Supporting structures or entire frames that are manufactured next to the rail line and then hydraulically inserted into track barriers

PORR's project construction services also include the construction of switch houses ranging from a few square metres to multi-storey operational buildings for rail infrastructure. In addition, office, logistics and workshop buildings as well as storage halls are built, such as those currently under construction for the Wiener Lokalbahn in Baden or the new ÖBB operations management centre in Stadlau with 12,000m² of floor space. The realisation of Park & Ride facilities in the form of multi-storey car parks or parking spaces to encourage commuters to switch from road to rail is also part of the range of services.

The new construction of complete rail lines, such as the Pottendorf Line in Ebreichsdorf with a route length of almost 10km including bridges and stations, or master builder work for the Vienna B65 line, from replacing tiles in Otto Wagner stations to the U4 girder renovation Schwedenplatz-Schottentor, are also part of the project construction services. Together with track construction, PORR's BIB (rail and engineering construction) thus covers the entire construction portfolio of customers in the rail infrastructure sector.
